inexactitude: (You know I've been thinking about this)

[Olive situates the camera, sitting at her desk and peering over her shoulder at her room. There are some clothes visible on the floor peeking out from behind her bed, and on the floor is what looks like a bunch of little red pieces of cloth. It's hard to tell that they're A's.

Olive smiles, and scratches the back of her neck.]
So this is kind of weird. I keep thinking my parents are about to walk in. But no, it's just a crazy, kind of creepy boat hallway outside. So. No worry about that, I guess.

[Pause. She runs a hand through her hair uncomfortably, then laughs. It's kind of forced and lame.]...Well this is awkward. So, uh, hi, my name's Olive. Penderghast, for what it's worth. Aaaand I'm a new warden here. On your boat. Of the Damned, or whatever you guys call it. You'd think a giant ship sailing through outer space would have a title a little more, I don't know...flamboyant? Than 'The Barge.'

Right, so, questions. This thing does filters, right? Like friends lists on livejournal and facebook and blogspot? Oh and private stuff, it does that too, right? Hang on, I think I found--

[Private]

[Yes, she found the function, awesome. She waves at the camera. Pauses. Scratches the back of her head. Makes a face and bobs her head to an absent beat.] I got a pocket, got a pocket full of sunshine... Oh my God, that song is going to be in my head for the rest of - I'm talking to myself. That's a good sign.

[Public again!]

Never mind! Got it. Totally. Under. Control. [She even makes a smooth hand gesture.]

Next question! These warden Item...things. Are they usually, uh. Weird and varied objects? [Muttered:] Or am I just reeeaaally lucky.

Man, this is just like blogging. Except, people almost never reply to my blog - but, you know. Don't let holding to traditional norms stop you.

[And added some time later:] One more question, and points if you can tell me this, but who knows what a lemon squeeze and/or melon grab is?

It is. But it can be dangerous as well, and...that's why it was outlawed.

[Well, that's a vast oversimplification, but he doesn't want to get into the smaller details just now.]

But, anyway, I want to know about you too! Where you're from.
worstsongever: (Do you actually know people like this)

[personal profile] worstsongever 2011-06-13 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
...Is this the part where you tell me not to touch the mist? [Because she was totally checking out the horse. :c Aaand shrug.]

Comparatively? It's not much. I mean, there's a lot less prejudice...sort of. Witch hunts aren't exactly legal, but there are plenty of loopholes that come into play way too often...[Hi Olive, you're babbling.] And running water is definitely a plus. I live in California. I'm...guessing you've seen current maps? What with Cornwall and all.

[identity profile] takeyouapart.livejournal.com 2011-06-13 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
The mist's fine.

[At the question, he nods.]

I know where it is. There's another girl here I know who lived there. What year are you from?
worstsongever: (lol what)

[personal profile] worstsongever 2011-06-13 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Really? Who? Do you know where in California? [She smiles a little, a very small I'm sorry for asking so many questions.] 2010.

[identity profile] takeyouapart.livejournal.com 2011-06-13 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Her name's Hayley. I'm not sure where she's from exactly. [He's not even sure whether or not the fact she's lived in California is privileged information by Hayley's standards, it's difficult to know with her. He can't imagine why she'd mind, though.]

Did you have a job at home, or...? [He's kind of aware that full-time education is potentially a thing for people of approximately their age.]
worstsongever: (heh.)

[personal profile] worstsongever 2011-06-13 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
No, I'm still in high school. Uh, that's like...From age five to about eighteen, kids are required to attend school. It's pretty much illegal to go without. Though there's also home schooling, but you have to actually be learning. So. Yeah, high school. I get thrown in with a few hundred other people in my general age range, and they work us through required literature and algebra and all that fun stuff.

[She pushes hair over her shoulder.] I haven't met Hayley yet. Though I kinda get the feeling I haven't met most people yet.

[identity profile] takeyouapart.livejournal.com 2011-06-14 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
You will. There's over a hundred people here, though, so...it'll take a while. It does for everyone. [He tucks his hands in his pockets.] So, where do you come from? The town, I mean. What's it like?
worstsongever: (Do you even know that verse)

[personal profile] worstsongever 2011-06-14 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
Ojai? It's small. I mean, it's gorgeous, but. It's small. Kind of, uh. Kind of hard not to hear everything about everyone. It's got some perks, though. It's in a valley, so sometimes my friend Rhi and I - I mean we used to - we'd drive up the closest mountain and just look at the whole city. Kind of makes me wish I was into photography.

[identity profile] takeyouapart.livejournal.com 2011-06-14 06:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Photogra - oh! Yes. Pictures. [Good going, Merlin.] Why can't you be into it? Is it expensive?
worstsongever: (You know I've been thinking about this)

[personal profile] worstsongever 2011-06-14 06:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Right, uh, pictures. Have you seen a camera? [She shrugs, then looks thoughtful.] I don't know, I guess I just always thought my hands weren't steady enough. I mean good cameras are pretty expensive, but I never really tried.

[identity profile] takeyouapart.livejournal.com 2011-06-14 06:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I've read about them. [He pauses, thinking.] We have an art therapy room, it might have cameras. ...Photography counts as art, doesn't it?
worstsongever: (lie explosion is go)

[personal profile] worstsongever 2011-06-14 07:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Definitely. [But now she is curious hmmmm.] Where's the art room?

[identity profile] takeyouapart.livejournal.com 2011-06-14 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
[That takes him a moment.] Level...seven, I think. Maybe eight.
worstsongever: (Say what now)

[personal profile] worstsongever 2011-06-15 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
I think I'll check it out later. Maybe I'll figure out a camera enough to take a picture of your mist horse. [Pause.] ...Assuming these things show up on camera, anyway.

[identity profile] takeyouapart.livejournal.com 2011-06-15 10:14 am (UTC)(link)
[Man who gave you the idea that mist horses won't show up on camera.]

It would. [Pause. What are you Merlin, some sort of taking-pictures expert?] I...don't know why it wouldn't?
worstsongever: (heretofore known as Superslut)

[personal profile] worstsongever 2011-06-15 09:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know, vampires aren't supposed to show up on camera. And. Ghosts? I don't know, I was never into all the supernatural stuff.

[identity profile] takeyouapart.livejournal.com 2011-06-17 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
I didn't know that about vampires. [Well, he didn't.] Never seems to bother the ones we have here, though. I suppose the communicators would work like cameras, wouldn't they?
worstsongever: (Holy shit what just happened.)

[personal profile] worstsongever 2011-06-17 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
...I might be wrong? I'm no Van Hellsing. And that's...a good point. So maybe it's just ghosts?

[...] Are there ghosts here?
