inexactitude: (You know I've been thinking about this)

[Olive situates the camera, sitting at her desk and peering over her shoulder at her room. There are some clothes visible on the floor peeking out from behind her bed, and on the floor is what looks like a bunch of little red pieces of cloth. It's hard to tell that they're A's.

Olive smiles, and scratches the back of her neck.]
So this is kind of weird. I keep thinking my parents are about to walk in. But no, it's just a crazy, kind of creepy boat hallway outside. So. No worry about that, I guess.

[Pause. She runs a hand through her hair uncomfortably, then laughs. It's kind of forced and lame.]...Well this is awkward. So, uh, hi, my name's Olive. Penderghast, for what it's worth. Aaaand I'm a new warden here. On your boat. Of the Damned, or whatever you guys call it. You'd think a giant ship sailing through outer space would have a title a little more, I don't know...flamboyant? Than 'The Barge.'

Right, so, questions. This thing does filters, right? Like friends lists on livejournal and facebook and blogspot? Oh and private stuff, it does that too, right? Hang on, I think I found--

[Private]

[Yes, she found the function, awesome. She waves at the camera. Pauses. Scratches the back of her head. Makes a face and bobs her head to an absent beat.] I got a pocket, got a pocket full of sunshine... Oh my God, that song is going to be in my head for the rest of - I'm talking to myself. That's a good sign.

[Public again!]

Never mind! Got it. Totally. Under. Control. [She even makes a smooth hand gesture.]

Next question! These warden Item...things. Are they usually, uh. Weird and varied objects? [Muttered:] Or am I just reeeaaally lucky.

Man, this is just like blogging. Except, people almost never reply to my blog - but, you know. Don't let holding to traditional norms stop you.

[And added some time later:] One more question, and points if you can tell me this, but who knows what a lemon squeeze and/or melon grab is?

Well, it's short for something much longer. Not everyone you will meet here is from your world, Olive.
worstsongever: (Holy shit what just happened.)

[personal profile] worstsongever 2011-06-09 08:42 pm (UTC)(link)
What's it short f--wait, what?
strangehistorian: (the curious)

[personal profile] strangehistorian 2011-06-10 11:11 am (UTC)(link)
Yes. Some people will be from similar worlds, but they have never existed where you are from and never will. Some are from very different ones from what you've come to know, as well.
worstsongever: (lol what)

[personal profile] worstsongever 2011-06-10 11:18 am (UTC)(link)
So basically you're talking about people like Frankenstein and Kirk actually existing outside of my copy and television screen.

That's...kind of cool. I mean, I could've used an info pamphlet, but you know. Awesome.

[personal profile] strangehistorian 2011-06-10 11:27 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, you must be from a world where you have access to the fictionalized accounts Trip was talking about! How interesting.

I am actually working on a pamphlet right now! But for the moment it isn't finished, so I do my best to tell newcomers things they need to know in person! For instance, do you know about the floods?
worstsongever: (Srsly :|)

[personal profile] worstsongever 2011-06-11 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
There's seriously someone named Trip around? [Harsh naming, that.]

Uh, yeah. I can expect to either die or turn into a man in the next few months. Sounds awesome.
strangehistorian: (the clever)

[personal profile] strangehistorian 2011-06-11 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
Another nickname.

Yes the floods are... unfortunate, but unpreventable. What about ports?
strangehistorian: (the helpful)

[personal profile] strangehistorian 2011-06-11 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
Sometimes, the ship will dock somewhere. The Admiral will announce it, but the way he describes the port will often be misleading. Ports are generally very dangerous, and disembarking means you cannot come back to the barge until the port is finished, usually within three or four days.
worstsongever: (OH come the fuck on)

[personal profile] worstsongever 2011-06-11 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
...Dangerous how.
strangehistorian: (the confused D:)

[personal profile] strangehistorian 2011-06-11 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
Well, one was stranding us in a wasteland without supplies, populated only by hostile soldiers and giant, aggressive insects.
worstsongever: (You're a little bit weird. No judgement.)

[personal profile] worstsongever 2011-06-11 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
You've gotta be fucking kidding me.
strangehistorian: (the timetouched)

[personal profile] strangehistorian 2011-06-11 04:28 am (UTC)(link)
I ...rather wish I was.
worstsongever: (Life officially suuuuucks.)

[personal profile] worstsongever 2011-06-11 04:44 am (UTC)(link)
Oh my God, what am I doing here.
strangehistorian: (the ancient)

[personal profile] strangehistorian 2011-06-11 06:04 am (UTC)(link)
I ask myself the same thing sometimes. It'll be alright though. You're doing a good thing, being here.
worstsongever: (You're a little bit weird. No judgement.)

[personal profile] worstsongever 2011-06-11 03:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Does focusing on that actually help?
strangehistorian: (the frustrated)

[personal profile] strangehistorian 2011-06-12 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
Yes. Or on your deal.

[Pause.]

It's an awfully cold thing to say, but this place will drive you to it.
worstsongever: (I shouldn't have said that :x)

[personal profile] worstsongever 2011-06-12 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
I guess I'll keep that in mind when I start going crazy.
strangehistorian: (the hero)

[personal profile] strangehistorian 2011-06-12 06:45 am (UTC)(link)
If you... ever need help, I'd be happy to do anything I can.
worstsongever: (You're a little bit weird. No judgement.)

[personal profile] worstsongever 2011-06-12 03:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks, Chromie.

Uh - so, what is that short for?

Chronormu.

I like to keep it something of a secret, though. It's a boy's name where I'm from, a little embarrassing.

[This is true, but actually? Anyone named Chronormu is definitely a Bronze Dragon, and that's not getting out as long as she can help it.]
worstsongever: (Actually kind of perky)

[personal profile] worstsongever 2011-06-13 01:26 pm (UTC)(link)
[Oh hey secrets. She's good with secrets.] Nothing to worry about, Chromie. This is so much easier to pronounce.
worstsongever: (People know I'm awesome)
